Company Recognized for its Continued Commitment to Environmental Sustainability and Delivering “Measurable, Significant Environmental Benefits”
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – May 21, 2010 – Boston-Power®, Inc., the rapidly growing provider of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, has been named a 2010 Green Award winner by the Boston Business Journal (BBJ). Adding to an expanding list of environmental awards and accolades, Boston-Power joined 14 other innovative Massachusetts-based companies recognized for their commitment to combating climate change and fostering environmental sustainability.
Presented this morning at the BBJ’s 3rd annual Green Business Summit, the awards honor a select group of companies and business leaders demonstrating outstanding advances and stewardship in green innovation, invention, design and workplace policies. The awards highlight the unique ways companies make changes with everything from green construction, to reducing carbon footprints, to sustainability.
Joining Boston Children’s Museum and Wainwright Bank & Trust Co. as honorees in the Invention category, Boston-Power was lauded for its award-winning lithium-ion battery cell – Swing™. Designed to meet the stringent requirements of a wide spectrum of electric vehicle and transportation applications – such as Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), fully electric commercial vehicles, e-bikes and e-scooters – Swing’s high energy density, as well as extended cycle and calendar life, make it well suited for extended driving range and substantially more efficient in weight and space savings when compared to existing battery solutions. Utility energy storage applications can also capitalize on Swing.
“Massachusetts is a leader when it comes to driving innovation in clean technology,” said Boston-Power Founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Önnerud. “Boston-Power has a longstanding commitment to the environment and we believe that a company can uphold that commitment while defining new technologies, products and markets. We’re honored to receive this distinction. Together with the other winners, we look forward to continuing to play a part in fostering environmental sustainability in Massachusetts and across the world.”
“The Boston area is a hotbed for clean tech innovation, and the technological advances at Boston-Power exemplify our region’s innovative edge,” said George Donnelly, editor of the Boston Business Journal.
Dr. Lampe-Önnerud and Boston-Power have earned numerous industry and environmental recognitions, including:
