Boston-Power Adds Dell’s Recently Retired Top Supply Chain and Procurement Executive to Board
Martin Garvin Brings 30+ Years of Experience in Establishing and Expanding Global Operations for Dell, HP, Sun and Others
Westborough, Mass. – August 13, 2008 – Boston-Power, Inc., the rapidly growing provider of Lithium-ion batteries that redefine portable power, today announced the addition of internationally recognized supply chain and procurement executive Martin J. Garvin to its board of directors.
Mr. Garvin, 56, most recently served as senior vice president of worldwide procurement and global customer experience for Dell, Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL). During his 11-year tenure, he is credited with establishing North America’s top provider of notebook computers as the thought leader in capitalizing on supply chain and procurement strategies to dominate the market. He retired from Dell in May 2008.
“Battery power performance is a huge opportunity to significantly improve
the customer experience with notebooks,” Mr. Garvin said. “Boston-Power has developed a game-changing Lithium-ion battery system that’s poised to address that. The company is creating tremendous excitement throughout the industry and I’m thrilled to join the board as we deliver our first products to market.”
Mr. Garvin's career spans nearly 30 years and includes senior executive level positions with Dell, HP and Sun. He brings to Boston-Power substantial expertise in global leadership of high technology companies as well as strategic and tactical planning, business analysis, customer service, procurement, negotiation, forecasting, market analysis, regulation and compliance, and international development.
“Martin is recognized as a trendsetter in supply chain, procurement and customer experience – with unparalleled knowledge of the notebook computer marketplace,” said Boston-Power Founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud. “Our Sonata technology has been validated by the top OEMs and the market opportunity available to us and our customers is substantial.”
Boston-Power’s Sonata – the longest lasting, fastest charging, safest and most environmentally sustainable Lithium-ion battery – establishes new performance benchmarks that redefine the portable power space. Initially targeting notebook computers, Sonata delivers like-new performance for three years versus current batteries that start to fade in just three to six months. Sonata’s “drop-in” design enables it to be used with existing notebook computers without design changes on the part of notebook computer original equipment manufacturers.
The company’s patent-pending, whole-system approach means that its technology can be applied to a vast range of end-applications. As a result, total cost of ownership benefits inherent in its notebook computer batteries prove increasingly impressive in cases where even greater power is required. Complementing best-in-class performance, the unmatched safety benefits available from Boston-Power’s technology apply whether used in notebook computers and consumer electronics devices or other applications such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
