Lithium-ion Battery Innovator’s Inclusion in The Wall Street Journal’s “Next Big Thing” List of Venture-Funded Companies Highlights Game-Changing Energy Storage Solutions
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – March 9, 2010 – Boston-Power®, Inc., the rapidly growing provider of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, has been named by The Wall Street Journal a Top 10 clean technology company in its “Next Big Thing” list of the top 50 venture-funded companies. Boston-Power appears on the list, published in today’s issue of The Wall Street Journal, alongside other leading clean technology companies including Fisker Automotive, Silver Spring Networks, Solyndra and Tesla Motors.
The list is published in conjunction with The Wall Street Journal’s ECO:nomics conference, held March 3-5 in Santa Barbara, Calif. A premier forum for leaders at the intersection of business and the environment, the conference brought together several hundred CEOs, other key executives and officials from the most influential and visible companies, governments and organizations around the globe to share insights into the strategic opportunities associated with environmental issues.
The Next Big Thing survey, based on proprietary data from Dow Jones VentureSource, identifies green companies that have the capital, executive experience and investor know-how to succeed. A team from Dow Jones VentureSource calculated the rankings, applying a set of financial criteria to some 350 U.S.-based venture-backed businesses in clean technology. Dow Jones reporters and editors who cover the venture capital industry also provided their perspective and expertise beyond the numbers. Dow Jones VentureSource tracks more than 38,000 venture-backed companies in the U.S., Canada, Europe, China and India, as well as over 14,000 private investment firms worldwide.
Today’s announcement comes on the heels of Boston-Power’s receipt of a prestigious 2010 Technology Pioneer Award, presented in January at the 40th World Economic Forum. The award recognizes the most innovative start-ups from around the world that will have a critical impact on the future of business and society.
“At Boston-Power, our belief in the power of technological innovation as a catalyst for environmental sustainability fuels our commitment to game-changing energy storage solutions,” said Boston-Power Founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Önnerud. “We’re honored to be included in the Next Big Thing list as one of the companies capitalizing on this opportunity.
